Dead Ends: Varissuo
2013, Turku

Dead Ends: Varissuo was created as a community theater project in the Turku suburb Varrisuo, an area known to have a high percentage of new immigrants. The project included both a two week long "open street school" of urban animation and physical theater and a "pop-up traffic sign arts center" for dialogues and interviews with locals. The project was concluded with a promenade performance around the Varissuo suburban center. The show was based on a collection of stories about the different home cities that people living today in Varissuo have left behind.

The project was made possible through the collaboration with Olohuone Urban Art Festival, Svenska Kulturfonden, Turku city, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, The Varissuo Cultural Centre Yhdessa ry and the EU project “Naiskeskus”.
